American Specialty Health to Provide New Consumer-Direct Program for Complementary Health Care to Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® Service Benefit Plan

SAN DIEGO (Nov. 30, 2004) – American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation’s leading complementary health care benefits organization, announced a new agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), providing their Service Benefit Plan members with a consumer-direct program.

Since 1999, through its subsidiary, American Specialty Health Networks, Inc. (ASH Networks), ASH has served BCBSA by providing complementary health care provider discounts to approximately 4.4 million Service Benefit Plan members and BCBSA employees. Effective January 1, 2005, under the new ASH consumer-direct program, Service Benefit Plan members will receive discounts from network providers, including chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, registered dietitians, and fitness clubs when they purchase a $50 provider discount card. Providers participating in the network are located throughout the United States.

Members will also receive discounts on over 2,400 health and wellness products on Healthyroads.com, as well as free shipping on all orders, through this non-insurance program. Healthyroads.com is the e-commerce Web site of ASH subsidiary, Healthyroads, Inc.

“American Specialty Health is proud to continue its long and beneficial relationship with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association,” said George DeVries, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of ASH. “We look forward to providing Service Benefit Plan members with an outstanding affinity program.”
