American Specialty Health to Offer Electronic Document Imaging through CoreTree Corporation SAN DIEGO (February 22, 2005) — American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation’s largest complementary benefits organization, announced an agreement with the CoreTree Corporation to supply ASH contracted providers with “Scan&Store,” a program to convert patient documents into electronic images.
CoreTree is a business solutions company providing process management services and headquartered in Chicago. “Scan&Store,” their customized imaging program, provides conversion of records in a simple, secure, HIPAA compliant process.
The “Scan&Store” document conversion program offered through ASH takes aim at one of the most technologically neglected aspects of health care: patient records. Despite the sophisticated technology at the disposal of most providers, their offices continue to operate using paper. Now however, many providers are discovering that digital imaging can limit overhead costs, provide HIPAA security compliance and free up time and space to allow them to see more patients.
“Almost every business in America is looking for more efficient back office operations. Imaging is the first step in reducing manual processes while providing a secure solution,” said Amit Pandey, CEO of CoreTree. “‘Scan&Store’ offers a simple solution; rooms full of file cabinets are replaced with electronic images stored on CD or hard drive. From there only authorized individuals can access them. This electronic control of access rights is the key to HIPAA security requirements.”
The CoreTree “Scan&Store” system pre-packages every aspect of the tedious process of document conversion. Providers do not have time to research, organize, and then manage the complexities of converting their records into digital images. CoreTree makes it as simple as one phone call. CoreTree arranges document pick up, scanning, indexing, and loading images to a secure CD or a hard disk.
“The market is full of complex and expensive document management systems. But providers are looking for a simple, secure, HIPAA-compliant solution,” said Michael Benham, CoreTree’s Vice President of Business Development. “We have approached this from a whole different direction. Most document systems provide utilities that would seldom, if ever, be used in a medical provider’s office. CoreTree has taken the time to listen to providers and discover what they really want and need. From there we have created a model that is economical, simple to implement and operate, yet still meets the security and compliance needs of the busy health care provider.”
“Cost-effective, electronic document management products and services are essential in order to reduce costs and retain high quality of service,” said George DeVries, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of ASH. “We’re pleased to offer CoreTree’s simple, secure, value-added program to our providers.”
