American Specialty Health Launches National Network of Fitness Clubs and Personal Trainers

SAN DIEGO (April 27, 2005) - American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation's largest complementary health care organization, announced the creation of a national network of over 5,000 fitness clubs, available through its subsidiary, American Specialty Health Networks, Inc. (ASH Networks).

Through this network, members can access thousands of contracted fitness clubs that have met stringent clinical and safety standards, as well as a wide array of credentialed personal trainers certified by ASH Networks-approved education programs. As an added bonus, members can self-pay to increase their initial program services, such as enrolling additional family members in fitness club programs or upgrading personal training services.

To select a fitness club or trainer from this new network, members can call ASH Networks' toll-free customer service center or search for an ASH-approved fitness center online at the Healthyroads.com® Web site.

This network of fitness clubs and personal trainer services is not the company's first foray into managing such programs. Previously, ASH Networks has provided access to fitness club networks through other organizations.

"As a result of ASH Networks' successful fitness benefit, incentive, and affinity programs, we decided that the best way to serve our members was to create our own direct national network," said George DeVries, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of ASH. "With this network, we are pleased to offer our members yet another opportunity to lead healthier, more active lives."

American Specialty Health, Incorporated (ASH) and its subsidiaries make up the nation's leading specialty benefits organization for complementary health care, providing benefit, health education, and affinity network programs to health plans, insurance carriers, employer groups, and trust funds nationwide. Based in San Diego, ASH has more than 500 employees and covers more than 12.1 million members in benefit programs and more than 80 million members in affinity programs nationwide.
