American Specialty Health to Provide Neighborhood Health Partnership Members with Healthyroads Weight Management and Tobacco Cessation Programs
SAN DIEGO (May 18, 2005) - American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation’s largest complementary health care benefits organization, announced a new agreement with Neighborhood Health Partnership to provide employer groups with “Healthy Lifestyles,” a health education program that addresses tobacco cessation, weight management, fitness, and relaxation skills.
Members will have the option of selecting the Weight Management or Tobacco Cessation programs, or joining one of the following Healthy Living clubs: Fitness Club, Walking Club, Vitamin Club, or Relaxation Skills Club. Employees will have access to health education and coaching from licensed health care professionals, including personal trainers, registered dietitians, and registered nurses. Also included in the programs and clubs are online tools and e-communication providing motivation, advice, and support.
In addition to these tools, members will receive outreach phone calls that welcome them into their program or club and help them set and track their health goals.
ASH’s online Web site for health and wellness products, Healthyroads.com®, offers employees discounts of 15-60 percent off manufacturers’ retail prices and free shipping. On the Healthyroads Web site, employees can access their program or club information through a password-protected portal.
Some Florida employers who purchase the Healthy Lifestyles program through Neighborhood Health Partnership can earn rebates off their medical premium upon renewal depending on the percentage of employees who participate in the program. Employees must reach and maintain a specific level of good health determined by the date they enter into their online trackers.
“American Specialty Health is pleased that Healthyroads is able to provide Neighborhood Health Partnership with these valuable health education tools,” said George DeVries, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of ASH. “Whether it’s through the weight management or tobacco cessation programs, or one of the specialized clubs, employees can get the motivation and education they need to live longer, healthier lives.”
"With the introduction of NHP's Freedom Select Plan (higher deductibles, low premiums) and this partnership with American Specialty Health, NHP offers unique and attractive healthcare options to south Florida businesses" said David Pollack, President of NHP.
NHP is an HMO licensed by the State of Florida and currently operates in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Born out of a coalition between Dimension Physician Hospital Organization and John Alden Insurance, it has been in operation since 1994. In July of 2002, NHP was acquired by private interests from the former provider owners and has grown to become the largest HMO operating in Miami-Dade County since that time. NHP has its principal offices at 7600 Corporate Center Drive in Miami.
