American Specialty Health Awards Scholarship to Chiropractic Student
SAN DIEGO (May 25, 2005) - American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation’s leading complementary health care benefits organization, announced the winner of its 2005 scholarship award for students pursuing careers in chiropractic.
The scholarship winner is Jonathan Walker, a student from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Fla. He will receive $15,000, which will be applied toward further studies in chiropractic.
Criteria for the scholarship include grade point average, financial need, and participation in various professional activities. Each applicant was also required to submit a written essay on their studies in complementary health care. Walker submitted an essay entitled “The Clinical and Economic Benefits of a Preventative Health Care Paradigm.”
“We congratulate Mr. Walker for creating an outstanding paper,” said George DeVries, chairman, president and chief executive officer of American Specialty Health. “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer scholarships that recognize academic excellence and enthusiasm towards complementary medicine.”
Each year, students pursuing careers in various aspects of complementary health care may apply for scholarships totaling $41,000 through the American Specialty Health scholarship program. Qualifying students are those studying chiropractic, dietetics, naturopathy, massage therapy, or acupuncture at any accredited institution in the country. In 2004, ASH awarded scholarships in each of the following areas: chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, naturopathy, and dietetics.
