New Exercise Reward Program From Healthyroads to Motivate Members Nationwide

SAN DIEGO (August 31, 2005) – American Specialty Health (ASH), the nation's largest complementary health care organization, recently announced the creation of an Exercise Reward Program, available to employer groups and health plan members nationwide through ASH subsidiary Healthyroads, Inc.

Through this program, health plan members can receive financial rewards of up to $200 annually for working out at least 120 times a year at the qualified fitness club or exercise center of their choice. Members also receive a quarterly exercise newsletter, a member log book, and ongoing support from ASH as they progress toward their personal fitness goals.

Although not required, members may select from more than 5,000 fitness clubs and more than 2,000 exercise centers contracted through ASH subsidiary American Specialty Health Networks, Inc. (ASH Networks). As an added program incentive, members have access to best pricing on memberships at ASH Networks-contracted fitness clubs and exercise centers.

A recent study by Aon Consulting found that over 60 percent of U.S. employers offer financial rewards, fitness program discounts, and other incentives to encourage employee participation in health and wellness programs. These results support the timeliness of Healthyroads’ Exercise Reward Program, according to ASH chairman, president, and chief executive officer George DeVries. “More and more employer groups and health plans are recognizing the value of reward programs as a proven method for driving participation in corporate and personal wellness initiatives,” he said. “By offering a unique, easily accessible reward program, Healthyroads is again playing a key role in helping fulfill individuals’ wellness needs.”

“We are pleased to help motivate individuals to achieve their health and wellness goals by offering members access to Healthyroads’ Exercise Reward Program-a program that benefits the pocketbook as well as the waistline,” DeVries added.

To participate, members register for the program through a toll-free telephone call to Healthyroads. Then, the members track their workouts, and just show up and exercise! Each workout, including activities such as aerobics classes at fitness clubs and rock climbing sessions at exercise centers, counts toward members’ qualifying for the exercise reward.

American Specialty Health, Incorporated is the nation's leading specialty benefits organization for complementary health care, providing fitness and wellness programs to health plans, insurance carriers, employer groups, and trust funds nationwide. Based in San Diego, ASH has more than 500 employees and administers wellness programs for more than 400,000 members and complementary health care benefit programs for more than 12.1 million members.
