Gold’s Gym International Teams Up with Silver&Fit™, American Specialty Health’s Integrated Fitness Program for Seniors Gym Chain to Promote Senior Fitness Program to Franchises
SAN DIEGO (June 13, 2007) — Leading personal health improvement company American Specialty Health (ASH) announced it has teamed up with Gold’s Gym International, the world’s largest co-ed gym chain, to promote network participation in ASH’s Silver&Fit™ healthy aging program to its individual franchise owners.
Silver&Fit is an integrated wellness program for seniors that uses a self-care approach to provide unique fitness, nutrition, and health education programs to its members.
Launched Jan. 1, 2007. Silver&Fit supports seniors as they begin or maintain a regular exercise regimen and learn how to make healthier choices in their daily lives. Unless required by their health plans, members pay no copays, coinsurance, or deductibles to participate in the program or its activities.
Silver&Fit members at participating Gold’s Gyms across the United States will have access to state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment and free weights, as well as amenities such as whirlpools, exercise classes, and saunas, where available. In addition, members may participate in onsite exercise and healthy aging classes developed by ASH to specifically address seniors’ unique health and wellness needs. Classes are taught at select locations by instructors and program managers certified by Silver&Fit and trainer by ASH wellness subsidiary Healthyroads, Inc.
Through this arrangement with ASH, Gold’s Gym will provide a corporate-level “seal of approval” that recognizes Silver&Fit for its dedication to improving senior health through fitness and for its certification of instructors and program managers. This designation is expected to build network recruitment for Silver&Fit, and provides Gold’s Gym with the opportunity to help its individual franchise owners as they reach out to their senior members with new programming options.
“American Specialty Health and Gold’s Gym share a commitment to empowering individuals to take charge of their health regardless of their age,” said ASH president and chief executive officer George DeVries. “We are pleased to join forces with Gold’s Gym to promote Silver&Fit and to help seniors succeed in maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle throughout their ‘silver’ years.”
“We’re thrilled to enter into this partnership with American Specialty Health,” said Anthony Baynard, Vice President of Corporate Sales for Gold’s Gym International. “This program will deliver incredible value to both our corporate and franchise-owned locations. More importantly, it will allow us to continue to improve the health and wellness of the growing boomer population in the U.S.”
